April 2017

  • gala, Court Theatre, Chicago. Music director. Old friends, new friends, and the score of GYPSY.
     

March 2017

  • WAIT WAIT DON'T KILL ME (book by Dave Holstein) wins a Sarah Lawrence College International Audio Fiction Award! Dave gives a witty speech; I give a heartfelt speech; all eat finger foods and rejoice.
  • Broadway's Future Songbook Concert, Bruno Walter Auditorium, NY Public Library at Lincoln Center. An evening of my music performed by wonderful friends. This was a special night.
     

February 2017

  • DIARY OF A WIMPY KID big fat workshop/industry presentations. Co-music & lyrics with Michael Mahler. Book by Kevin Del Aguila. Produced by Kevin McCollum and Fox Stage Productions. Cast of 17, four-piece band, Logic Pro tracks to sweeten the sound, projections, the works. Songs cut, songs re-ordered, tone sharpened. 
     

December 2016-February 2017

  • COMEDY OF ERRORS, Hartford Stage. Dromio of Syracuse. Directed by Darko Tresnjak. It's fun to be a twin, and act and dance/Especially when they custom-make your pants.
     

FALL 2016

  • WAIT WAIT DON'T KILL ME, the podcast (Wondery Media Network). Five episodes, radioplay-meets-cast album. Book by Dave Holstein, directed by Kevin Laibson. playbill article; all episodes free & downloadable. Three days tracking vocals; two months scoring (100+ stems per episode), mixing, mastering. An intense labor of love; also I know how to make it sound like an orchestra with my computer now.
     

also, November 2016

  • concert, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. Greg Hildreth, Renée Albulario and I share 60 minutes of material from DAYS LIKE TODAY, NOTHING TO SEE HERE, WAIT WAIT DON'T KILL ME and DIARY OF A WIMPY KID. A very meaningful time to make music in Washington, D.C. and we were grateful for the opportunity. FULL VIDEO HERE.
     

October 2016

Well, it's been a while. Here's the last twelve months in a nutshell. Reverse chronological order.
 

  • July 2016: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, MUNY. Motel the tailor. Grew a shaggy beard, wore prayer shawl, sang and sweated for 10K people a night, ate custard.
  • July 2016: MOLLY MURPHY AND NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON ON OUR LAST DAY ON EARTH, NYMF. Music director. Black holes, gorgeous alt-pop score by Loren Berí.
  • June 2016: THE MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS, O'Neill. Music director. Heartbreaking score. Two weeks by the ocean. Nice one, Dan Green.
  • June 2016: Camp Broadway, Tempe AZ. 100 teenagers, ten minutes of LEGALLY BLONDE. Can he do it? He did.
  • May 2016: GRAVEDIGGERS' HAMLET development, Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Co-music & lyrics with Michael Mahler. Book by Laura Schellhardt. While the events of Hamlet unfold with the rich people up on the hill, down in the graveyard five gravediggers experience love, loss, secrets and betrayals of their own. Coming to CST as soon as we finish the draft.
  • May 2016: YOUNG LIONS OF BROADWAY concert at Symphony Space, hosted by Andrew Lippa. Featured composer, and music director. Lilli Cooper sang my tune "Tuscany." She's so good. 
  • Spring 2016: DIARY OF A WIMPY KIDChildren's Theatre Company, Minneapolis. Co-music & lyrics and co-MD with Michael Mahler. Kevin McCollum and Fox Stage Productions, producers. Stay tuned.
  • February 2016: new tune for Greg Hildreth's one-man show SECOND FIDDLE (54 Below). Charlie Rosen arranged it, so, win.
  • November 2015: Raúl Esparza concerts, Dr. Phillips Center, Orlando FL. Music director, arranger, bandleader.

  • October/November 2015: CHARLES FRANCES CHAN, JR.'S EXOTIC ORIENTAL MURDER MYSTERY. National Asian American Theatre Company at Soho Rep. Additional music/lyrics. This was a cool one.
  • September 2015: DAYS LIKE TODAY workshop, Playwrights Horizons. Music/lyrics by me, and co-MD with masterful Tim Splain. Directed by Sam Pinkleton.

Interactive musical short film "My Little Red/Green Coat" is released!

Summer goings-on: performed in concert of Di Goldene Kale with National Yiddish Theater at Rutgers. Music directed new musical SINGLE WIDE for NYMF. Associate music directed reconceived THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT – THE SMELL OF THE CROWD reading, Roundabout Theatre.

Recently returned to NYC from an inspiring weeklong retreat hosted by the Weston Playhouse. Began first draft of new musical by me and Dave Holstein. Working title NOTHING TO SEE HERE: IS MUSICAL STORY OF BLIND GIRL LOOKING FOR LOVE IN POST-SOVIET RUSSIA.

Recently wrapped five weeks voted #1 at #serials@theflea (the Flea Theater): WAIT WAIT DON'T KILL ME, an original musical (in five parts) inspired by the "Serial" podcast. Music and lyrics by me, book by Dave Holstein. Incredible experience start to finish. Loved working with the hypertalented Bats and especially my oldest friend, director Kevin Laibson.

Wrote an opening number for Greg Hildreth's sold out solo show at 54 Below, SECOND FIDDLE.
